In About You, Dick Staub addresses irreligious, religious, spiritual seekers, and all kinds of Christians and shows us that Jesus came to satisfy our universal longing for a fully human life, not to establish a narrow us-versus-them religion. In short, Jesus didn´t come to make us Christian; Jesus came to make us fully human. In a fresh exploration of the ancient Biblical stories of creation, fall, and redemption, Staub explains that salvation is not about going to heaven when we die; it is about a full and abundant life now. In practical, down-to-earth, language, About You deals with this concept on three levels: anthropologically (our common story and universal human needs), theologically (God´s awareness and response to our needs), and practically (how we can attain and maintain a more complete and satisfying life). Staub´s previous book (The Culturally Savvy Christian) was selected by Kirkus Reviews for their 2007 Religion and Spirituality edition. This new book is designed to help those who are seeking a way to integrate both a fully alive spirituality and a fully alive humanity - a way that is embodied in the often-misunderstood life and teaching of Jesus Christ. This groundbreaking book illuminates the path toward becoming the best version of yourself. 1. Language: English. Narrator: George Newbern. Donald and Teresa Yates spent a month in Yucatan in 2007. This day-by-day account of their travels there is the result. From Ek Balam, the country´s ´´newest ruin´´, where their guide is the grandson of one of the ´´knowledge people´´ who once ruled it, to Mayapan, the last Mayan city to be abandoned, inhabited now only by the howler monkeys that were the patron gods of its poet kings, they give us their impressions and present their favorite images of a culture that is very much alive if you know where to look and the right questions to ask. 1. When a wife goes missing, her husband is often the prime suspect in her disappearance. But what happens when she is never found? These are the stories of 30 missing women. Fascinated by missing persons reports and cold cases for as long as she can remember, JJ Slate´s debut true crime audiobook highlights 30 shocking true stories of wives that have mysteriously vanished, presumably at the hands of her husband. Countless cases like these have played out under the public spotlight, and many of them have been solved after the wife´s remains have eventually been found. But some of these women remain missing years later, denying the families their right to bury their loved ones. Many of these families continue the gruesome search for the remains of their daughter, granddaughter, sister, aunt, or mother years, even decades, later. Missing Wives, Missing Lives focuses on 30 unique cases in which the wife has never been found and the undying efforts of her family as they continue the painful search to bring her home. The audiobook covers decades older cases, such as Jeanette Zapata, who has been missing since 1976, to more recent and widely known cases, such as Stacy Peterson, who has been missing since 2007. Keeping these women´s stories alive may be the key to solving the mystery and bringing them home to their families. Someone out there knows something. 1. Language: English. Narrator: Karen Roman. Called ´´our finest black-humorist” by The Atlantic Monthly, Kurt Vonnegut was one of the most influential writers of the 20th century. Now his first and last works come together for the first time in print, in a collection aptly titled after his famous phrase, We Are What We Pretend To Be. Written to be sold under the pseudonym of ´´Mark Harvey,” Basic Training was never published in Vonnegut’s lifetime. It appears to have been written in the late 1940s and is therefore Vonnegut’s first ever novella. It is a bitter, profoundly disenchanted story that satirizes the military, authoritarianism, gender relationships, parenthood, and most of the assumed mid-century myths of the family. Haley Brandon, the adolescent protagonist, comes to the farm of his relative, the old crazy who insists upon being called The General, to learn to be a straight-shooting American. Haley’s only means of survival will lead him to unflagging defiance of the General’s deranged (but oh so American, oh so military) values. This story and its 30ish author were no friends of the milieu to which the slick magazines’ advertisers were pitching their products. When Vonnegut passed away in 2007, he left his last novel unfinished. Entitled If God Were Alive Today, this last work is a brutal satire on societal ignorance and carefree denial of the world’s major problems. Protagonist Gil Berman is a middle-aged college lecturer and self-declared stand-up comedian who enjoys cracking jokes in front of a college audience while societal dependence on fossil fuels has led to the apocalypse. Described by Vonnegut as, ´´the stand-up comedian on Doomsday,” Gil is a character formed from Vonnegut’s own rich experiences living in a reality Vonnegut himself considered inevitable. Along with the two works of fiction, Vonnegut’s daughter, Nanette shares reminiscences about her father and commentary on these two works - both exclusive to t 1. Language: English.
